A breath of fresh air in a world full of stale or pompous management speak and practices - that is Kellaway. A management columnist at the Financial Times, she knows all the tricks and traps, and has some very strong views on what works, and what we should strike off from the world of management and everyday office life.
What I love most about her is her no-nonsense approach and her wicked sense of humour. This lady knows her satire and uses it to the maximum to poke fun at all the ridiculous goings-on that may be a part of your average working day. Listen to Lucy is a great place to discover her gems.
For instance, she wants to call a meeting, well, a meeting – and not an ideas exchange, a briefing, a key note seminar, a creativity gym, a workshop, a colloquium, a webinar, a roundtable conversation, a retreat, a gathering, a summit, a forum, a conclave, a brain spa, a journey, an idea shower, a creativity workout, a huddle, a get-together, a pow-wow, a briefing, a de-briefing or a session (and the list goes on). It's hilarious and so true.
Want to get more of her? Thankfully, she has written several books:
- Sense and Nonsense in the Office (1999)
- Martin Lukes: Who Moved My BlackBerry (2005)
- In Office Hours (2010).
