Sculpture by the Sea (Bondi 2010)

Off to a fabulous start at Bondi Beach
Exploring space, playing with different materials, harmony between balance and design, of movement and form... it was all there. Plus what a way to enjoy the sun, sand, breeze and of course sculpture!

The 14th annual Sculpture by the Sea came to an end on Sunday, 14th November 2010 and proved to be a total hit with the crowds.

It was the kind of creativity that made your eyes go wide, because you realize it's something you've never looked at in quite that way. Clearly, so much work, time, energy and effort went into each piece of work. Thank you artists, for opening new angles to the same old everyday routines, for new perspectives on all that we take for granted and for the courage to share your visions with us.

Some of the descriptions for the artworks were a little bit out there in terms of ease of understanding. Granted, there is no limit to how we interpret things, because we each look at things with our own blend of ideas and experiences. The sculptures made people pause and think. That to me, counts for a lot. It was a long walk, and while my legs promised to get even the day after (and they did), my mind was refreshed.

There were works by artists from all over Australia and 11 other countries. Kudos to the organizers who surmounted all challenges, especially in terms of diminished sponsorship support and donations because of the economic slowdown. It was a job well done.
